Too tight for gomukhasana

Hi! practiced yoga for many years, but I don’t seem to improve my flexibility in my hip joints for gomukhasana and the like. My knees are way up high. Any good classes addressing this for a sustainable opening and ease?

Hi @tmc! We recommend you do all forward bending hip openers with your sit bones up on a folded blanket. If you are very tight, you can practice these for years without making progress. Without the proper angle, you can almost just make yourself more hunched over.

Additionally, the front of your hips, psoas muscle etc., might be getting tighter from repeating that motion. Make sure that you are doing lunges (or such a move) to open the front of the hips.

Lastly, consider swapping out single pigeon for gomukahasana for some time.
